Fuding, also known as Tongshan, is located on Shacheng Bay in the northeastern corner of Fujian Province. It has a population of over 550,000. The area is mountainous and known for its tea production, producing nearly 9,000 tons of tea per year. Some of China's finest teas come from this area. Taimu Mountain, about 27 miles away from Fuding, stands in the East China Sea and has spectacular scenery. It is a popular tourist destination. Shacheng near Fuding is a port city, and National Road No. 104, the major coastal highway in southeastern China, runs through Fuding.
