Jinjiang Children's Welfare Institute

The Jinjiang Children's Welfare Institution is located in Jinjiang, on the southern coast of Fujian about 140 miles from Fuzhou. The orphanage children moved into a modern, new building in June 2008. Previously, the orphanage had been in the same location for about 150 years (more information and photos of the old orphanage). The first children to be placed internationally by this orphanage were adopted by families from the United States in May 2001, followed by a group of families from the Netherlands in August 2001. Love Without Boundaries currently sponsors a preschool program at this orphanage.
If you have additional information about this orphanage or the Jinjiang area, or photos that you are willing to share, please contact us. There is an email group of families who have adopted from Jinjiang and other orphanages in Fujian Province. To join this group, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FujianFamilies/.

About Jinjiang

Jinjiang falls under the jurisdiction of Quanzhou, a beautiful port city that was once one of the premier ports for international trade. For that reason, the area has been home to many immigrants over the centuries and is still very ethnically diverse. The climate is similar to that of Florida - same hot, humid summers, same mild winters, and same rainy season (from May through November, peaking in the summer months). Jinjiang has grown rapidly in the last decade, and many factories that produce footwear (especially athletic shoes) and clothing for export are located in this city. The world's only surviving Manichean temple is on Huabiao Mountain in Jinjiang.
